About the
Care and Share Campaign

The Care and Share information and education campaign was initiated by the Bureau of Land Management Shoshone Field Office and the Idaho Rangeland Resource Commission (IRRC) in May 2004 to prevent and reduce conflicts between ranchers and outdoor recreationists on public and private lands.

Since then, several other state and federal government agencies have also committed to participating in the campaign.

The theme of the campaign is Care for Idaho’s rangelands and share them respectfully with others. The goals are to increase awareness of the principles of multiple use; ranching methods; and steps that can be taken to avoid negative interactions.

The campaign focuses on educating outdoor recreationists about the authorized and historic use of public and private lands for livestock grazing; the use of guard dogs to protect sheep from predators; the importance of closing gates to keep cattle in specific areas; and the need to respect private property for continued access.
